Frequently Asked Questions

Should I measure rice cooked or uncooked?

Always plan with uncooked amounts — rice roughly triples in volume when cooked, so 1 cup of uncooked rice makes about 3 cups cooked. The calculator above shows you both.

How much rice per person?

As a planning estimate, allow about 1/2 cup of uncooked rice per adult when rice is the main dish, or about 1/3 cup per adult when it is a side dish. Kids count as roughly half an adult serving.

How do I store leftover cooked rice?

Cool leftover rice quickly, refrigerate it within an hour, and keep it for up to 3–4 days. Reheat until steaming hot all the way through before serving.
